We are introducing a series on Good Mental Health in the Workplace with Dr. Elisabeth Scheepers. Many in our industry feel this training should be part of the regular safety training.
The Introduction to Psychological Health in the Workplace is a half-day workshop for general and operational managers, safety managers and human resources managers interested in implementing a mental health program at their companies. The workshop explains the reasons for and benefits of having a program, and what is involved in developing, implementing and maintaining a successful one.
The workshop will show how companies can use existing resources and the strengths and talents of their own personnel to rapidly and cost-effectively implement a program tailored to their specific needs and circumstances.
Research has shown that implementing a psychological health program results in less absenteeism, fewer compensation claims and better performance while at work. Perhaps more importantly, your employees and their families will thank you for caring.
The ultimate intent of the series is to certify a staff member to be a peer support counselor. Someone within a company who is trained to recognize and support those who may be suffering from a temporary mental health issue. The goal of the training is not in any way to offer treatment, just as one would not presume to treat a physical illness. Simply to have someone within the company to whom employees could turn to in difficult times.
