Reviews for Training for Peer Support Counsellors
Instructor: Dr. Elisabeth Scheepers
Class of 2018
All but one rated the class as excellent, the other as very good.
Favorite parts of the class: Learning the skills to deal with co-workers having issues. The relatable stories, the skills learned – reframing positively and not offering solutions. The entire course was excellent I enjoyed it very much, the video and role playing were very informative. Discussions and openness amongst the instructors and attendees. A reminder to listen and that is okay to tell someone you don’t know what to say. Sharing examples and the open discussions. I enjoyed when Rene read the situations from the book and we discussed it. What parts of the course did you like the least? The role playing, although I know it helps. None, all was good. Still some vagueness in how to respond in some situations. I struggled with having to role play at first, yet felt more comfortable doing more of it. The role playing , although I know it helps.
What changes would you recommend? Adding page numbers to the bottom of the right-hand corner or the manual. Less description on all of the different MH illnesses/personalities. More examples and discussion on scenarios.
General Comments: I feel that I’m well equipped to help my peers out when they are having trouble at work or in their personal lives. Very well taught course, lots to learn. Thanks for the great course! Ive attended three courses instructed by Dr. Scheepers, this was the one I could see the most use in applying.
All would recommend the course to others.
